Abstract

The invention discloses a coreless current sensor for a high current power module. A power module is provided that is configured to supply power to a load. The power module includes a current generator, a current rail, and a magnetic sensor. The current generator is configured to generate a current. The current rail is configured to receive the current and output the current from the power module. The current rail includes a first opening formed therethrough, and the current, while flowing along the current rail in an output direction, produces a magnetic field. The magnetic sensor is disposedin the first opening of the current rail, and is configured to generate a differential sensor signal based on the magnetic field impinging thereon. The current generator is further configured to regulate the current based on the differential sensor signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to current power modules, and more particularly to coreless current sensors for current power modules. Background technique [0002] For high power drive implementations, a non-inverting current sensor is used to determine the phase current delivered by the inverter power module to the motor. Achieving non-inverting current sensing is challenging because high-power environments can include phase currents up to 1kA, voltages up to 1200V, step voltage transients up to 15kV / μs (Si) or 120kV / μs (SiC), at Voltage overshoot of more than 100V in both directions (lower than DCLink- and DCLink+), need for safety isolation (minimum fundamental), and power density (output power per volume). A magnetic sensor implementing a field concentrator according to the core-based sensing principle can be used for such an in-phase current sensor. [0003] With a core-based solution, field concentrators are placed around each current...
