The method comprises: obtaining a replacement instruction triggered when a locally observed consensus node breaks down, wherein the consensus node and the observer node are located in the same block chain network; determining an observation layer number corresponding to a block locally stored by the observer node according to the replacement instruction; from the observation layer number, pulling blocks of which the layer number is greater than the observation layer number from the block chain network in sequence; carrying out consensus on the pulled blocks in a block chain network, and storing the pulled blocks after consensus is completed until the number of layers of the locally stored blocks reaches the current highest layer number; and replacing the failed consensus node with a new consensus node. By adopting the method, the disaster tolerance performance of the blockchain network can be improved.
