Example Embodiment

[0033] A preferred field of application for the embodiment variant is an inkjet printer 7 . figure 1 An example of the basic structure of such a machine 7 comprising a feeder 1 up to a receiver 3 for feeding a printing substrate 2 to a printing substrate 2 where it is printed by a printing head 5 is shown in In the printing mechanism 4.

[0034] This is a sheet inkjet printing press 7 controlled by a control computer 6 . As already described, during operation of the printing press 7 , it may occur that individual printing nozzles in the printing head 5 of the printing unit 4 fail. this is in Figure 2a and 2b is schematically shown again. Figure 2a Printing nozzles 8 ejecting conventional ink drops 9 are shown. On the contrary, in Figure 2b In , deposits are formed at the printing nozzle openings 10, which cause the ejected ink droplets 9a to be too small.

[0035] The consequence is then "white lines" 19, or distorted color values in the case of multicolor printing...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for reducing the effect of defective printing nozzles in a multicolor printing process on an inkjet printing machine. A computer creates a color transformation table that, for every process color of the inkjet printing machine, includes a replacement combination of the respective other process colors with a minimum color distance to the process color in question. The color transformation table is used to compensate for a defective printing nozzle. The color transformation table is created by printing and measuring a test chart with all process colors and interpolated by the computer. The color transformation table is then optimized to avoid undesired transitions between supporting points of the color transformation table and the resultant color transformation table accordingly contains process color combinations with minimum sensitivity to defective printing nozzles and the optimized table is used to carry out the multicolor printing operationon the inkjet printing machine.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for reducing the effect of defective printing nozzles during a multicolor printing process of an inkjet printer. [0002] The technical field to which the present invention pertains is digital printing. Background technique [0003] With many inkjet printing machines known from the prior art, the printing material is guided through one or more rows of printing nozzles which are fixed in place during printing with respect to the machine and which will be in the order of several Picoliter ink droplets are ejected onto the moving substrate. In a multicolor inkjet printing machine, a plurality of ink printing units with different colors are arranged one behind the other. Depending on the rasterization used, the printing nozzles are controlled temporally appropriately so that the printed image appears on the printing material. In most cases, the intensity of the printing color on the image regions can be controll...
