The invention discloses a building surface crack detection method and system based on image processing, and the method comprises the steps: carrying out the denoising and enhancement of an image containing a crack at an image preprocessing stage; in a candidate crack point detection stage, converting the grayscale image into a binary image, and removing noise by using a multi-directional non-minimum suppression algorithm; in the crack connection stage, connecting cracks based on a pixel tracking algorithm, performing shape feature analysis on the connected areas, and screening out the areas which do not meet the requirements; and in the stage of noise elimination based on the color features, performing noise suppression again according to the color features of the cracks, and obtaining a final crack detection result.
