[0031] The present invention relates to a medical device for dilating a urethral stricture for a prolonged period of time. Positioning of the device within the urethra will be performed following cystoscopic and / or radiographic evaluation of the urethral stricture. As part of installation of the device in the urinary system of a male patient or any other mammal with the same or similar urinary system, a cystoscope is advanced to the distal end of the urethral stricture. An occlusive balloon catheter, such as that sold under the trademark FOGARTY by Edwards Lifesciences Corporation (Irvine, CA) with distance markings on the catheter, is advanced through the stricture into the bladder.
