Abstract

The invention provides a method for estimating the weight of a fetus. A plurality of different three dimensional ultrasound images of an imaging region are acquired, wherein the plurality of different three dimensional ultrasound images comprise: a head image; an abdominal image; and a femur image. Each of the plurality of different three dimensional ultrasound images undergoes segmentation and the fetal weight estimation is performed based on the resulting segmentations.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of ultrasound imaging, and in particular to the field of fetal ultrasound imaging. Background technique [0002] In current clinical practice, fetal weight is often estimated using a combination of 2D measurements extracted from 2D ultrasound images. Some more advanced methods use extremity volume fraction as an additional parameter in the fetal weight formula (e.g., thigh and arm volume fraction), which reduces weight estimation error from 8.5% to 6.6%. [0003] In the case of a fetus that is too small or too large, errors in fetal weight estimation during pregnancy can result in inadequate care of the infant during pregnancy or after birth. Depending on the actual weight of the fetus, the balance between the relative coefficients used in the current model will affect the accuracy of the estimated fetal weight. For example, in the case of fetal weight >3500 g, a formula that is more computationally depen...
