Abstract

There is provided a method for encoding and transmitting a plurality of image frames (110) of a video stream (100), the method comprising intra refresh encoding the plurality of image frames; encoding one image frame (111) of the plurality of image frames to produce encoded image data of the one image frame, the encoded image data being organized in a plurality of data packets (113), wherein the encoding comprises intra frame encoding the one image frame; transmitting, over a time period (120), the intra refresh encoded image frames; transmitting the plurality of data packets, wherein the transmission of the plurality of data packets is distributed over the time period during which the intra refresh encoded image frames are transmitted. An interrelated method for receiving and storing the plurality of image frames, as well as devices and computer program products for performing the methods, are also provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method and a device for encoding, transmitting and storing image frames of a video stream. In particular, the present invention relates to methods and devices in which the encoding involves intra-refresh encoding. Background technique [0002] A common problem with H.264 encoding (and similar standards) is intra-frame (I-frame) bitrate spikes. Due to the large number of cameras that can be connected and used together in a network, and because a typical surveillance camera scene has a very large (x10-x100) I-frame to predicted frame (P-frame) size ratio, this problem is especially important for surveillance cameras. Said is usually more serious. Ideally, a constant bit rate would be preferred from a network point of view. One solution for reducing the bitrate spikes of the camera is to spread the I-frame over multiple image frames, and instead have a part of each image frame (the intra-refresh region) be forced to be coded ...
