Problems solved by technology

However, based on computational fluid dynamics, the pre-separation system 380 results in a high pressure drop across the pre-separation system 380, which prevents the pre-separated oil from draining and results in a high probability of exhaust oil due to higher fluid velocities

Embodiment Construction

[0065] Referring to the figures, various embodiments disclosed herein relate generally to various separation assemblies having various nozzle plates and various pre-separator assemblies. As further described herein, the nozzle plate may include a shield, a nozzle plate interlock feature, and / or a media spacer to prevent oil from flowing through the nozzle plate, adhere to the media retainer, and secure the filter media, respectively.

[0066] Shrouds for impact nozzles

[0067] Figure 4 One embodiment of an air-oil separator or separator assembly 20 (eg, crankcase ventilation) is shown. The separation assembly 20 may include, for example, an impingement crankcase ventilation system. The separation assembly 20 includes housing 22, inlet 24, outlet 26, filter media 28, nozzle plate 50 (and optionally impingement assembly 130 or 230 and / or pre-separator 440, as shown below and below). The filter media 28 is configured to filter fluid. The nozzle plate 50 (and optionally the ...

Abstract

A separation assembly comprises a housing and a plate. The housing comprises an inlet and an outlet. The plate is positioned within the housing between the inlet and the outlet. The plate comprises a wall, at least one aperture, and at least one shield comprising an inner surface surrounding the at least one aperture and an outer surface. The shield extends from an upstream side of the wall and encompasses only a portion of a flow path between the inlet and the upstream side of the wall such that fluid can flow radially beyond the outer surface of the at least one shield in the housing between the inlet and the wall.

Description

[0001] Cross references to related patent applications [0002] This application claims priority to and the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 776,074, filed December 6, 2018, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to gas-oil separation assemblies. Background technique [0004] In conventional gas-oil separation assemblies with nozzle plates, a large amount of oil enters through the impingement nozzles because of the relatively ineffective pre-separation and the relatively large amount of oil. This flow of oil through the impingement nozzle presents challenges to discharge the separated oil after impingement. [0005] In order to reduce the amount of oil flowing through the impingement nozzle, a restrictive pre-separation mechanism can be used. However, these restrictive pre-separation mechanisms increase the velocity of the fluid, still allowing oil ...
