Abstract

The invention provides an ink jet recording apparatus and a maintenance method thereof. The ink jet recording apparatus has excellent cleaning performance and is capable of providing recorded matter with high rubbing fastness and washing fastness. The ink jet recording apparatus includes: a recording head having a nozzle for discharging an ink composition and a nozzle forming surface having a discharge port of the nozzle; and a pressure cleaning mechanism that performs a cleaning operation of applying pressure to the inside of the recording head to discharge the ink composition from the nozzle. The ink composition contains resin particles, an organic solvent having a normal boiling point of 280 DEG C or higher, at least one selected from the group consisting of organic bases and inorganic bases, and at least one selected from the group consisting of betaine and polyols that are solid at room temperature, and the resin particles have a glass transition temperature of -30 DEG C to 50 DEG C.
