Abstract

This invention relates to a residential energy consumption monitoring system and a method for monitoring energy consumption of a residential premise. The system comprises a smart distribution board (DB) and at least one smart socket outlet. The smart DB comprises a metering board having a number of metering channels, each metering channel is connected to one of a miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) and configured to obtain frequency (Hz), current (A), and voltage (V), a DB processing unit configured to receive data from the metering device and, a direct current power supply for driving the processing unit. The smart socket outlet comprises a live inlet connected to one of the MCBs, a neutral inlet, metering device configured to obtain frequency (Hz), current (A),and voltage (V) from the live and neutral inlets, an outlet processing unit configured to receive data from the metering device and transmit a data package comprising the data from the metering devices to the DB processing unit. The outlet processing unit is communicatively connected to the DB processing unit.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a system and method for remotely monitoring residential energy consumption. In particular, the present invention relates to a system and method for obtaining data associated with energy consumption from an electrical panel and one or more outlets in a monitored premises and analyzing that data locally and remotely for user visualization . Background technique [0002] Smart plugs can currently be used to monitor and control the energy consumption of appliances connected to them. In order to monitor all outlets, each outlet must have a smart plug attached. Smart plugs must be individually configured so users can identify monitored outlets. Therefore, the user has to repeat the same setup process many times. [0003] The smart plug must be within range of the wireless network in order for the smart plug to communicatively connect to the home network. Therefore, a wireless repeater may be required to extend the range of the w...
