Embodiment Construction

[0012] Methods and systems are disclosed for an engineering design system that integrates a conversational design bot into a design view dashboard to increase design efficiency. In the design of complex systems involving contributions from engineers from multiple disciplines (e.g. electrical, mechanical, automation, etc.), it is useful to have an understanding of the overall system (including other domains) when an engineer is working within the respective design domain (or discipline), So that when a change or addition to one design area is implemented, the impact on the entire system can be monitored. Specifically, the disclosed solution informs engineers through system design views to improve evaluation of competing designs considered within a single design domain. Unlike traditional engineering systems, the disclosed solution learns the contextual information of system components such that each component is represented as a virtual object linked to the component properties...

Abstract

Systems and methods for engineering conversational conversations in a system design include a design robot configured to generate a design dashboard on a graphical user interface that presents a textual representation of system design view information by presenting a system design view component. A dialog feature of the dashboard receives a plain text string that conveys a user's request for a system design view of a system element and attributes of the system element. The design robot converts a user request in plain text to a user request in vectorized context using a context defined for a design activity target of a system design element. System design view information is retrieved from a design repository based on the vectorized user request. A plain text string response to the user request is displayed in the dialog box, the response conveying system design information related to the system design.

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates to engineering design software. More specifically, this application relates to a conversational design robot user interface for accessing and manipulating system design information managed by engineering design software applications. Background technique [0002] The purpose of systems engineering (including software engineering) is to design a system and its architecture and system elements that satisfy defined system goals. Today, the process of designing such a system is highly manual and often requires multiple iterations to meet the system's goals. Part of the system design process can include trade-off analysis to make informed design decisions at all architectural levels (eg, system level, subsystem level, component level) to achieve system goals. To make such informed design decisions requires access to various system design information, such as system elements and their attributes, called "system design views". [0...
