The invention discloses a short circuit and eccentricity fault diagnosis method for a rotor of a variable-speed pumped storage unit, and belongs to the field of relay protection of generator motors. The method comprises the following steps: collecting stator side branch current data corresponding to a rotor eccentric fault of the variable-speed pumped storage unit and all rotor winding short-circuit faults possibly occurring in a slot and at an end part as an original data set; extracting low-frequency components of each phase of branch circulating current on the stator side in the original data set, and performing normalization and fault type marking to obtain a training set and a test set; training the LSTM neural network model by using the training set, and checking the trained neural network model by using the test set; and when the accuracy of the test result reaches the standard, storing the corresponding model for fault diagnosis of the rotor short-circuit fault and the rotor eccentric fault of the variable-speed pumped storage unit.
