Abstract

A computer-implemented method for automatically transforming a business process model (BPM) into a hierarchical state model is provided. The BPM has a parallel path of at least one diverging node and at least one joining node. The method includes, in response to identifying each of at least one bifurcated node in the BPM in node analysis: (i) generating, for each edge from the at least one bifurcated node, a bifurcated edge sub-state having an initial state and an operating state, and appending the bifurcated edge sub-state to a hierarchical state for the at least one bifurcated node; and (ii) generating a synchronizer sub-state diagram corresponding to each junction node passing through the bifurcated node to receive synchronization events from each bifurcated edge sub-state diagram, and attaching the synchronizer sub-state diagram to the hierarchical state of the at least one bifurcated node to form an intermediate version of the hierarchical state diagram.
