Problems solved by technology

[0005] Achieving reliable detection of PVC using ICMs presents challenges when compared to PMs and implantable cardiac devices (ICDs) with dedicated atrial and ventricular leads or Holter monitors with multiple surface ECG leads
In addition, distinguishing PVCs from conducted premature atrial contractions (PACs) is challenging in identifying PVCs with different morphologies originating from various sites in the ventricle

Embodiment Construction

[0019] It will be readily understood that the components of the embodiments generally described and illustrated in the drawings herein may be arranged and designed in a variety of different configurations in addition to the exemplary embodiments described. Thus, as shown in the accompanying drawings, the following more detailed description of example embodiments is not intended to limit the scope of the claimed embodiments, but merely to represent example embodiments.

[0020] Reference throughout the specification to "one embodiment" or "an embodiment" (or the like) means that a particular feature, structure or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment. Thus, appearances of the phrases "in one embodiment" or "in an embodiment" and the like in various places throughout this specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment.

[0021] Furthermore, the described features, structures or characteristics ma...

Abstract

A system is provided that includes one or more processors and a memory coupled to the one or more processors. The memory stores program instructions, and the program instructions are executable by the one or more processors. When executed, the one or more processors obtain a cardiac activity (CA) signal for a series of heartbeats and identify whether a characteristic of interest (COI) from a first segment of the CA signal exceeds a COI limit. The one or more processors also analyze a morphology of the CA signal for the series of heartbeats in response to a first segment of the CA signal exceeding a COI limit, and identify preventricular contractions (PVCs) within the series of heartbeats based on the analysis operation.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments herein relate generally to systems for identifying premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), and to methods and systems for reducing false heart rhythm declarations caused by PVCs. Background technique [0002] Implantable cardiac monitors (ICMs) operate to monitor the heart, including detecting arrhythmias based on various criteria. Such irregularities may include changing patterns of cardiac activity (CA) signals. In some embodiments, the arrhythmia detection process steps through the CA signal heart-by-beat and analyzes the characteristics of interest (COI) over a period of time. Arrhythmia onset can be asserted based on the COI. When the ICM detects an arrhythmia attack, the ICM stores the CA signal (eg, an ECG or EGM signal). [0003] However, the arrhythmia detection process may sometimes assert false arrhythmia episodes when the patient is not experiencing an arrhythmia. When a false arrhythmia episode is asserted, the ICM conti...
