Abstract

A method and apparatus preventing a disc from being scratched by an objective lens. A focus pull-in operation is performed. If a level of a pull-in signal remains lower than a predetermined critical level for a predetermined critical period of time or more, the objective lens is controlled so as to move away from the disc.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates to a method and device for controlling an objective lens to prevent an optical disc from being scratched by the objective lens. Background technique [0002] Recently, an objective lens with a large numerical aperture (NA) and a laser diode with a short wavelength are commonly used in the optical disc system to increase the recording density of the optical disc. As the NA increases and the wavelength decreases, the focal length becomes shorter. In this way, even a small disturbance can easily cause the objective lens to scratch the disc and scratch the disc. Since next-generation high-density optical disks such as Blu-ray Discs (BD) aim to have a recording density about five times that of DVDs, they use an objective lens with a large NA and a blue laser light with a short wavelength. Therefore, the possibility that the objective lens will scratch the next-generation high-density optical disc becomes higher. In the cas...
