Embodiment Construction

[0032] Embodiments of the disk management method of the present invention will be specifically described below with reference to FIGS. 1 to 33. FIG. It is assumed in the embodiment that the disc device is a handy camcorder, and that the video cassette is an AV recording and playback disc, and that the external recording device is connected to a PC device. It is preferably a removable disc media, but could also be in assembled form such as a hard disk. For ease of description, it is assumed that the logical file system adopted by such a disc is based on UDF (Universal Disk Format) which is an OSTA (Optical Storage Technology Association) standard, and other common logical file systems may also be used.

[0033] Fig. 1 shows the configuration of a typical disk device. The data input / output unit 1 inputs a video signal from a camera or the like, and reproduces and outputs data on a monitor. The data processor 2 is a processing section that performs signal processing such as enc...

Abstract

When the management area and the actual data area are separated beforehand in a filesystem and the management area is replicated to perform backup, the maximum number of files to be managed will be limited by the size of the management area because it is necessary to reserve the management area and the backup management area beforehand. In a filesystem in which the management area and the data area are recorded into a common area, it is impossible to use a replicating technique of the entire management area since there is no concept of the management area. The problem is solved by creating in succession history information of a file each time an action such as addition, revision or deletion of the file on the recording medium is effected, each history information including recorded positional information of the file on the recording medium and the type of the action on the file, related with the file identification information of the file; and recording the history information in a history table area, which is separated from the area where the files and management information are recorded, in the order in which the history information have been created.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a file management method handled as backup and other files on a recording medium. Background technique [0002] In order to record data for PC use, AV use and other uses on a disc-shaped medium, a logical file system is generally used. Using a logical file system makes it possible and easy to manage recorded data by file and construct a directory hierarchy. Examples of such logical file systems are the commonly used FAT file system, and UDF (Universal Disk Format) for DVDs. [0003] The logical file system is a mechanism in which recorded management information includes information for identifying data recorded on a disc and location information of the data recorded on the disc, and files can be accessed by accessing these pieces of information. For example, the management information of the logical file system includes attribute information such as file name, file creation data, file size, file status and others, and...
