Embodiment Construction

[0040] The invention discloses a method for providing positioning services in a mobile communication system. Before describing the general method of the present invention, the power boost function (PUF) signal and 3 timers used in the method of the present invention will be explained.

[0041] Power boost function (PUF) signal

[0042] In a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular system or Personal Communications Services (PCS) supporting IS-95B as the air interface between the mobile station and the base transceiver station, the base transceiver station (BTS) may request Power Boosting Function (PUF) signals, and mobile stations supporting IS-95B can send PUF signals at the request of the BTS.

[0043] A PUF signal is an extremely powerful signal sent by a mobile station at the request of a BTS. The mobile station transmits pulses at specific time intervals, where the pulses are boosted at specific power level increments for a predetermined time. Since the PUF signal...

Abstract

System and method for requesting positioning services in mobile communication systems. The MSC requests positioning services from the BSC, and the BSC requests channel allocation from neighboring BTSs. The BSC commands the BTS to request a Power Boost Function (PUF) signal. The serving BTS instructs the MS to send a PUF signal. The MS sends PUF signals to the serving and neighboring BTSs. The serving and each neighboring BTS receive PUF signals with different time delays to detect the parameters required to calculate the position, and report the detected parameters to the BSC. The BSC sends this parameter to the MSC. The MSC uses these parameters to calculate the position of the MS.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention generally relates to the field of mobile phone systems, in particular to a method for confirming the position of a mobile station in a mobile communication system. Background technique [0002] A traditional cellular radio communication system includes: a mobile station (MS) for receiving radio services; a base transceiver station (BTS) for providing radio services to mobile stations (MS) within a specific area; a base station controller (BSC) , for connecting the BTS and the Mobile Switching Center (MSC); and the Mobile Switching Center (MSC), for connecting the Base Station Controller (BSC) and the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). [0003] With the development of mobile communication systems, new services have been introduced. For example location services determine the location of multiple mobile stations. This is useful in situations such as emergency calls at '119' (similar to '911' in the US), or when tracking unauthorize...
