Abstract

A bicycle shift control device is disclosed having a planetary gear assembly that shifts the relative angular position between an actuation member and a control member. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the variable speed control means includes a control member engageable with the ring gear to drive a plurality of planetary gears around a fixed base. The fixed base member preferably includes a sun gear integrally connected thereto. The planetary gears are preferably driven by actuating members configured to tension or loosen a bicycle shifting cable. The rotation of the planetary gears results in tension or relaxation of the bicycle shifting cable. The shift control means may include a positioning mechanism for controlling the position of the actuating member relative to the base member.
