Problems solved by technology

Despite this, PC100 has two connectors, which means that PC100 wastes connection space
This deficiency is more pronounced when the PC 100 is a notebook type, since the connection space allowed by a notebook PC is more limited than that of a desktop PC
In addition, there is a possibility that the user inserts a connector (plug) into a non-corresponding connector (socket) by mistake

Embodiment Construction

[0013] The present invention will now be explained in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0014] see figure 1 , the personal computer 20 includes a PCI bus 1, a common analog modem 2 using 56K dial-up access, an ADSL modem 3, an electrical contact switch 6, a connector (socket) 11 and a casing 12. A normal analog modem 2 and an ADSL modem 3 are connected to the PCI bus 1 . The housing 8 incorporates the normal analog modem 2 and the ADSL modem 3 . A connector (socket) 11 is attached to the surface of the housing 12 and is connected to the telephone line through a connector (plug) 9 inserted into the telephone line cable 7 . The electrical contact switch 6 is connected to the connector (socket) 11, the analog modem 2, and the ADSL modem 3. The analog signal f from the telephone line is input to the analog modem 2 or the ADSL modem 3 by switching by the electric contact switch 6 .

Abstract

An electronic apparatus reduces attachment space occupied by a modem connector and prevents the user from erroneously inserting a modem connector to a non-corresponding connector (jack). The electronic apparatus includes a plurality of modems, an input port connected to a communication line and a switch connected to the plurality of modems and the input port. The input port outputs a signal from the communication line, and the switch outputs the signal to a selected one of the plurality of modems.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to electronic devices such as personal computers having internal modems, and more particularly to electronic devices having Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) modems and conventional analog modems using, for example, 56K dial-up access. Background technique [0002] Nowadays, ADSL is becoming more and more popular as a communication line. Therefore, the current trend of electronic devices is to have ADSL modems in addition to common analog modems. [0003] First, a conventional personal computer having an ADSL modem and an ordinary analog modem will be explained. refer to image 3 , a conventional personal computer 100 includes a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus 1 , an ordinary analog modem 2 , an ADSL modem 3 , a connector (socket) 4 , a connector (socket) 5 and a housing 8 . A normal analog modem 2 and an ADSL modem 3 are connected to the PCI bus 1 . The housing 8 incorporates the normal analog modem...
