The valve mechanism 51 operates according to a pressure difference between a compression space 37 in the middle of compression and a low pressure chamber 36 in a shut-up state, and communicates a high pressure chamber 45 with the low pressure chamber 36 only when this pressure difference becomes a prescribed value or less. Thus, when refrigerant pressure of the low pressure chamber 36 reduces in pump-down operation, the high pressure refrigerant gas is leaked to the low pressure chamber 36, and the compression ratio is restrained from becoming excessive.
