Abstract

A controller management system enables a computer managing a device to effectively communicate with a plurality of controllers. These controllers are connected with the monitoring computer of the management device through the network. The monitoring computer performs power state determination tasks and monitoring tasks. Each controller sends a power-on message indicating the power-on state to the monitoring computer at specified intervals. When the power state monitoring task does not receive any controller's power on information within the specified time period, it is determined that the power supply to the controller is in the off state. The monitoring task skips the controller that has been determined to be powered off, thereby not receiving data from it, and communicates with the next powered-on controller. Since the controller whose power is off is skipped without performing reception data communication with the controller, time for wasteful time-out processing is not required and effective communication can be realized.
