[0058] Embodiments of the present invention are described below. FIG. 1 schematically shows a tourist attraction 1 and its surroundings as a first area in which the road traffic congestion degree estimation system according to this embodiment is installed. The ordinary road 2 as the first road extending outward from the tourist attraction 1 allows people to come to the tourist attraction 1 from the outside or to go outside from the tourist attraction 1 . Vehicles can travel between the tourist attraction 1 and the outside only when they pass through the ordinary road 2 . In addition, the ordinary road 2 leads to an expressway 3 as a second road. The expressway 3 extends from the tourist attraction 1 and the vicinity of the tourist attraction 1 as a second area (for example, an area within the jurisdiction to which the tourist attraction 1 belongs) to the outside of the nearby area. Therefore, people use the expressway 3 to travel from the tourist attraction 1 to the outside ...

[0123] Next, a second embodiment of the present invention is described below. Fig. 16 is a side view of part of the general road 2 used in this embodiment. The difference between this embodiment and the first embodiment is that the road traffic congestion estimation system according to this embodiment includes a dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) road machine 50 instead of the smart license plate reader 5 . The DSRC road machine 50 acquires information on a scheduled travel route on which the vehicle travels or information on a heading direction in which the vehicle is traveling from the car navigation system 11 installed in the vehicle. Hereinafter, the information on the scheduled driving route and the information on the heading direction are collectively referred to as navigation information. The distance between the smart license plate reader 4 and the DSRC road machine 50 is short (eg 10m or less).

[0138] Next, a third embodiment of the present invention will be described below. Fig. 19 is a side view of part of the general road 2 employed in this embodiment. The difference between the present embodiment and the second embodiment is that the road traffic congestion estimation system according to the present embodiment includes a hybrid road machine 13 which has the capabilities of a server 7, an intelligent license plate reader 4 and a DSRC road machine 50 And replace the server 7, the intelligent license plate reader 4 and the DSRC road machine 50 (equivalent to the road traffic congestion estimation system and the road traffic congestion estimation equipment).

[0139] FIG. 20 shows the hardware configuration of the hybrid road machine 13 . The hybrid road machine 13 includes a memory 71 , a control unit 73 , a wireless unit 74 , an antenna 75 , a DSRC wireless unit 76 and an antenna 77 .

[0140] The memory 71 and the control unit 73 are the same hardware devices as...

Abstract

A road traffic congestion degree estimation system includes smart plate readers that detect vehicles driven on a general road externally leading to a resort. The numbers of local vehicles and strange vehicles that currently exist in the resort are calculated, based on the number of vehicles approaching the resort, the number of vehicles receding from the resort, and information of smart plates of the detected vehicles. Furthermore, a prospective degree of traffic congestion on an expressway, which introduces the strange vehicles receding from the resort via the general road into areas where the strange vehicles are based, is estimated based on the above calculated numbers of local vehicles and strange vehicles. In this estimation, the number of strange vehicles contributes more greatly to an increase in the degree of traffic congestion than the number of local vehicles does.

Description

field of invention [0001] The invention relates to a road traffic congestion degree estimation system and a road traffic congestion degree estimation device. Background of the invention [0002] Currently, road information traffic jam provisioning systems based on Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) are known, which employ FM multiplexing or beacon technology. [0003] Patent Document 1 discloses a technology for predicting road traffic jams by acquiring license plate (or license plate) information by performing radio communication with each vehicle via road machines, and detecting the location of the vehicle based on place name information included in the license plate information. possible destinations to predict road traffic jams. [0004] Patent Document 1: JP-2003-109169A [0005] The above-mentioned patent document describes that the place name included in the license plate information is considered as a destination, but does not describe how to predi...
