Abstract

An escalator safety system monitors a number of sensors, contactors and switches on an electronic safety bus. Many bus nodes distributed throughout the escalator system maintain communication with the bus master on the safety bus. These bus nodes are connected with sensors, switches, contactors, detectors, components and other safety devices on various parts of the escalator system, and transmit status information to the bus master. The bus master preferably includes a microprocessor which, upon sensing an unsafe condition, sends control signals to the escalator controller and the drive and braking system to bring the escalator to a safe stop.
