Abstract

The device of data storage and retrieval includes following parts: magnetic tape drive in use for recording data to or reading data from the data box; storage bin for storing at least one data box; and box shuttle for moving data box between magnetic tape drive and storing position in the data box. The disclosed device is covered by body case of standard shape factor such as shape factor U to be configured to match to device associated with computer network. The disclosed device is upgradeable for different shape factors when limited number of parts is replaced, and most of modules and parts are unchanged. For example, changing parts in lifter of box shuttle and setting up higher or shorter storage bin in body case changes shape factor U; providing straps with different lengths for box shuttle or providing longer or shorter storage bin with more or less slots in order to prolong depth of the device will not change shape factor U.
