A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel are provided to drive the plasma display panel at a high speed by generating a sustain discharge when a final address discharge is generated. An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes a data driver(72), a scan driver(73), a sustain driver(74), a timing controller(71), and a driving voltage generator(75). The data driver supplies data to address electrodes. The scan driver drives scan electrodes. The sustain driver drives sustain electrodes, which are common electrodes. The timing controller controls the data, scan, and sustain drivers. The driving voltage generator supplies a desired driving voltage to the drivers. The scan driver sequentially supplies scan pulses to the scan electrodes during a portion of an address period.
