AI Technical Summary

Benefits of technology

The invention provides an automatic sheet feeder with fewer components and lower cost, which has a transporting mechanism for transporting sheets at different speeds. The difference in speed generates references for a subsequent image processing procedure, which allows for discrete image of the sheet without the need for a sheet detector and related circuits. The invention also provides a scan apparatus that can continuously scan multiple sheets without using a sheet detector and generate gaps for page separation, which can be used as references in a subsequent image processing procedure.

Problems solved by technology

However, the automatic sheet feeder comprising the sheet detector has a complicated control circuit, while the hardware cost thereof is increased.
Moreover, the automatic sheet feeder for combining with a flatbed scanner usually is the U-type automatic sheet feeder, which needs more rollers and components, and of which the manufacturing cost and the price are relatively high.

Embodiment Construction

[0017]The present invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, which proceeds with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein the same references relate to the same elements.

[0018]FIG. 1 is a schematic illustration showing a scan apparatus according to a first embodiment of the invention. Referring to FIG. 1, an automatic sheet feeder 1 with assemblies for transporting a sheet S at different speeds according to this embodiment of the invention includes a base 10 and a sheet transporting mechanism 20.

[0019]The base 10 may be composed of a single member or a plurality of members and has a sheet passageway 11, which may be formed by a plurality of guide plates. The sheet passageway 11 can be U-shaped or L-shaped.

[0020]The sheet transporting mechanism 20 disposed on the base 10 transports the sheet S through the sheet passageway 11. In this embodiment, the sheet transporting mechanism 20 includes a first transporting assembly 22 and a second transporting asse...

Abstract

An automatic sheet feeder includes a sheet passageway, an opening formed in the sheet passageway and a sheet transporting mechanism. The sheet transporting mechanism transports a sheet through the sheet passageway. The sheet transporting mechanism includes a first transporting assembly and a second transporting assembly, which is disposed downstream of the first transporting assembly. The first transporting assembly transports the sheet to the opening at a first speed, and the second transporting assembly transports the sheet away from the opening at a second speed higher than the first speed. A scan apparatus using the automatic sheet feeder is also disclosed.

Description

[0001]This application claims priority of No. 097119459 filed in Taiwan R.O.C. on May 27, 2008 under 35 USC 119, the entire content of which is hereby incorporated by reference.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0002]1. Field of the Invention[0003]The invention relates to an automatic sheet feeder and a scan apparatus, and more particularly to an automatic sheet feeder with assemblies for transporting a sheet at different speeds, and a scan apparatus using the automatic sheet feeder.[0004]2. Related Art[0005]A conventional automatic sheet feeder usually has a sheet detector or a plurality of sheet detectors for detecting a trailing edge and a leading edge of a sheet. Then, the sheet-fed roller in the feeder is controlled and timely stopped according to the signal outputted from the sheet detector, such that a delay in the time for initiating the feeding of a next sheet is effected and a sequence of sheets are separated by gaps between them. The sheets are scanned intermittently by a scan m...
