Instrument stabilization for microsurgery

A system for performing ophthalmic treatment includes a handpiece configured to be held by a surgeon's hand. An end effector is mounted to the handpiece and is configured to perform an operative treatment on tissue of a patient, such as eye tissue, when performing an ophthalmic treatment. The system includes: a motion sensor configured to sense a movement of the handpiece; and one or more stabilization actuators configured to stabilize movement of the handpiece in response to movement of a surgeon's hand. A controller is coupled to the motion sensor and the one or more stabilization actuators and is configured to instruct the one or more stabilization actuators to compensate for motion detected by the motion sensor. The controller may include a high-pass filter, wherein an output of the high-pass filter is used to control the stabilization actuator. Parameters of the high-pass filter can be adjusted in the whole ophthalmic treatment process.
