One-dimensional trellis shaping design

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may encode one or more most significant bits (MSBs) of a bit sequence according to an encoding rate to generate a set of shaped bits. The bit sequence may include the one or more MSBs and one or more least significant bits (LSBs), where a quantity of the one or more MSBs that are encoded may be based on the encoding rate. The UE may map each bit of the set of shaped bits to a respective modulation symbol of a quantity of modulation symbols according to a quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) scheme. The UE may also map the one or more LSBs to the quantity of modulation symbols according to the QAM scheme. The UE may modulate a signal based on the mappings and transmit the signal based on the modulation.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless receiver may receive a sequence of bits. The wireless receiver may determine one or more states for each state position of a trellis as part of time-stepping through the sequence of bits using a joint Viterbi equalizer and decoder. The wireless receiver may store, in a link list, a pointer to each previous state position of the trellis. The wireless receiver may store a branch decision associated with each previous state position. The wireless receiver may trace back through the link list with associated branch decisions to determine, from a stored global winning state, a transmitted sequence associated with the sequence of bits. Numerous other aspects are described.

Bcc low coding rate designs for next-generation WLAN

Techniques pertaining to binary convolutional code (BCC) low coding rate designs for next generation wireless local area networks (WLANs) are described. A processor of an apparatus (e.g., station (STA)) receives a string of input bits and codes the string of input bits. In coding the input bits, the processor encodes the input bits by a BCC encoder of the processor using a base code rate. The processor also repeats an output of the BCC encoder by a repetition circuit of the processor to result in an effective coding rate of the input bits that is lower than the base code rate.
