The Electron Polishing Guide (ELG) of the present invention can be used for readhead resistance control if the profile of film resistivity, read width and bar height offset over a row is known. However, the last two parameters are difficult to measure. Alternatively, the readhead can be used as a milling guide. The actual bar height cannot be precisely known without knowing the exact read width. However, the false bar height can be calculated by using the nominal read width. The pseudo bar height increases smoothly and monotonically with the actual bar height. In addition, the desired readhead resistance was obtained when the pseudostrip height reached its nominal target value.
