Embodiment Construction

[0019] Figure 1 shows a typical system in which the invention can be applied. The system includes several modules. The modular architecture is for rapid design and easy upgrades and redesigns. The system comprises a first module M1 comprising various modems, here a WLAN modem and a cellular modem. The first module M1 also comprises a first router R1 having a third port P13 and a fourth port P14 in addition to a first port P11 to a WLAN modem and a second port P12 to a cellular modem. The third port P13 of the first router is connected to the first port P21 of the second router R2, wherein the second router is arranged as an independent module. The second router also has a second port P22 connected to the memory module M2 and a third port P23 connected to the audio module M3.

[0020] The fourth port P14 of the first router R1 is connected to the second port P32 of the third router R3, wherein the third router and the application engine are integrated together in the applica...

Abstract

A device for transmitting data to a further device is arranged for transmitting a first class of data as a guaranteed stream of data-units, and for transmitting a second class of data-units on a best effort basis. The device starts the transmission of a burst of data-units which belong to the second class at a point in time where the remaining time interval until the start of the next burst of first-class data minus the required time for transmitting the burst of second-class of data is less than a predetermined time.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device and method for transmitting data. Background technique [0002] There is a clear tendency to construct systems such as mobile phones in a modular fashion, where the modules are connected together by common interfaces. Modules can exchange data with each other through connections such as buses or networks. The available bandwidth of the connection has to be distributed among the requesters. Connection allocation can be performed independently for each point in time or for clusters of time slots, as in a TDMA system. The most important data traffic classes are guaranteed throughput (GT) and best effort (BE) traffic. GT business means exchanging a predetermined amount of data at a clearly defined moment. Synchronous data traffic is a special case of GT traffic, where data is sent at fixed time intervals. The BE service class does not guarantee this, but provides the highest possible data rate. Therefore the ...
