Embodiment Construction
[0017] The present invention relates to an improved process for ozone bleaching and delignification of cellulose-lignin pulp. The method is applicable to any kind of pulp produced from lignocellulosic material, for example pulp produced from different kinds of plants mainly containing cellulose and lignin. In a preferred embodiment the pulp is wood pulp. More particularly, in some embodiments the wood pulp is chemical pulp or recycled pulp. The method is generally suitable for pulps of any consistency. In some embodiments, when the pulp comprises a suspension of cellulosic-lignin material in water, the pulp has a concentration of cellulosic-lignin material ranging from about 0.2% to about 50% concentration by weight of the pulp.
[0018] The pulp is contacted with ozone to bleach and delignify the pulp, a period referred to herein as the "ozone stage". Ozone is applied to the pulp in any suitable manner. Typically, pulp is fed into the reactor and ozone is injected into th...
