Problems solved by technology

The layer comprises polymeric fine fibers having a diameter of about 0.01 to about 0.5 microns, but is limited in basis weight due to limitations of the manufacturing process used
The limitation on the layer basis weight in the '142 patent can significantly shorten the life of the filter media and can severely reduce the ability of the filter to maintain a cleaning cycle

Embodiment

[0042] Nanowebs with spun basis weights from 2 to 10 grams per square meter (gsm) were prepared from polyamide PA 6 / 6 nanofibers using the method in World Patent Publication WO 03 / 080905. The average fiber diameter is about 400 nm. The nanofibrous web was bonded to a polyester mat with a nominal basis weight of 500 gsm using various techniques.

[0043] Acupuncture

[0044] The nanofiber web was spun into a 30 gsm polyester spunlaced scrim (Kolon, Korea) that was needle punched onto a polyester felt.

[0045] Using the needling method, the felt and scrim+nanofibre structure along with the nanoweb was needled on the inside facing away from the felt and from the side of the felt. The line speed was 1.5 m / min. The penetration per inch (PPI) was 383.

[0046] Adhesive Bonding

[0047] Bond the nanofiber web to polyester felt. A polyurethane adhesive was applied to the polyester felt at 130°C. The nanofibrous web is then adhered to the adhesive with light pressure.

Abstract

A bag filter having a support structure clothed in a filter bag. The cloth of the filter bag is a composite of at least one substrate layer and at least one nanoweb bonded thereto in a face-to-face relationship. The nanoweb is positioned at the surface of the filter bag first exposed to the hot particle laden gas stream and can have a basis weight of greater than about 2 gsm.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to filters and composite materials for filtering when filtering solids in fluid streams, such as industrial gas streams. Background of the invention [0002] Dust collectors, also known as baghouses, are commonly used to filter particulate matter from industrial effluents or exhaust air. Once filtered, the clean exhaust can be vented into the atmosphere or recycled. The construction of such baghouses typically includes one or more flexible filter packs supported in a box or similar structure. In such filter boxes and filter banks, the filter bags are typically held securely in the box and held in a position such that the effluent can pass efficiently through the bags, thereby removing particles entrained therein. The filter bags secured within the box are usually supported by a structure that separates the upstream from the downstream air, which also supports the filter bags to maintain efficient operation.
