Background of the invention [0002] Carpets, such as carpet tiles or backed carpet tiles, are typically manufactured as tufted or fused carpet materials with wear-resistant fibers or a pile surface from which pile yarns protrude upwardly. Carpet tiles are produced differently than regular tufted carpets or other fiber faced carpets because regular carpets do not require a large number of backing layers. In carpet tiles, the body of the thermoplastic backing layer needs to be strong and stable to hold the carpet tile so that it can function as a carpet tile. Typically the backing layer has a high loading (eg limestone) and is used with various mesh materials such as fiberglass, polyester or combinations thereof to provide dimensional stability.
