Embodiment Construction

[0013] Embodiments described herein provide one or more insulating blankets for a wind turbine. The insulation cover is adjacent to one or more surfaces of the nacelle or any other suitable surface of the wind turbine. The insulating cover enables the wind turbine to reflect solar radiation when the ambient temperature is above a temperature threshold and to absorb solar radiation when the ambient temperature is below the temperature threshold. Also, when the ambient temperature rises above the temperature threshold, the insulating cover reflects an increased amount of solar radiation. Similarly, the insulating cover absorbs an increased amount of solar radiation as the ambient temperature decreases below the temperature threshold. Thus, the insulating cover reduces temperature fluctuations in the nacelle. In one embodiment, the insulating covering comprises a reflective covering adjacent to the nacelle. In another embodiment, the insulating cover layer includes a coating t...

Abstract

The invention relates to a wind turbine, a nacelle, and a method of assembling the wind turbine. The nacelle (106) for the wind turbine (100) is provided. The nacelle includes a shell (200) having an exterior surface (204) and an interior surface (206), the interior surface defining an inner cavity (202), and at least one insulative covering (302) adjacent to the exterior surface, the insulative covering configured to reduce a fluctuation of a temperature within the inner cavity.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter described herein relates generally to wind turbines, and more particularly to wind turbines, nacelles, and methods of assembling wind turbines. Background technique [0002] Typically, a wind turbine includes a rotor including a rotatable hub assembly having a plurality of blades. The blades convert wind energy into a mechanical rotational moment, which drives one or more generators via a rotor. The generator is sometimes, but not always, rotationally coupled to the rotor through a gearbox. The gearbox boosts the inherently low rotational speed of the rotor for the generator to efficiently convert rotational mechanical energy into electrical energy, which is supplied to the utility grid via at least one electrical connection. There are also direct drive wind turbines without gears. Rotors, generators, gearboxes, and other components are typically mounted within an enclosure or nacelle positioned on a foundation including a lattice...
