Problems solved by technology

[0007] Laminates of elastic webs such as those disclosed in WO 03 / 047488 and WO 2007 / 133146 have been found to be difficult to process in high speed machines for the manufacture of disposable absorbent articles
Activated and stretched elastic webs tend to curl at the edges due to necking, meaning they are difficult to incorporate into high-speed manufacturing processes
[0008] Another problem is that the stretch of the elastic panels in the final absorbent article is less than expected, meaning that the article only fits a limited size range of wearers

Embodiment Construction

[0082] figure 1 A method of making an elastically stretchable three-layer laminate that may be incorporated into an absorbent article such as the pant article of the present invention is schematically shown.

[0083] The two-layer laminate elastic web 1a and the nonwoven web 2 are fed to a stretching and bonding unit 3 where the two-layer laminate elastic web 1a is raised in the machine direction (MD) The two-layer laminate elastic web 1a is stretched at a speed of 100,000,000, wherein the speed-up is achieved by moving the elastic web between rollers driven at different speeds. The nonwoven web can be stretched by small amounts, such as up to 5% of its original length, to provide increased control of the web during the process. The stretched two-layer laminate elastic web 1a is next bonded to the nonwoven web 2 in the stretching and bonding unit 3 . Bilayer Laminate Elastic web 1a comprises a nonwoven layer and an elastic film layer and may be a stretch activated laminate o...

Abstract

Provided is a method for producing pant-type articles having a waist-encircling portion and leg-encircling portions, each article (21) comprising a chassis structure having at least one elastic panel, the method comprising forming the chassis structure, the at least one elastic panel being formed by: a) providing a first web (1a, 1b) being an elastic web comprising at least one layer of an elastic material; b) stretching the first web by at least 50% in at least one direction, c) bonding the stretched first web (1a, 1b) while the first web (1a, 1b) is held in the stretched state to a second web (2a, 2b), the second web (2a, 2b) comprising at least one layer of an elastic or non-elastic material, the bonded first and second webs (1a, 1b; 2a, 2b) forming an elastic composite web (4), d) relaxing the elastic composite in the said at least one direction by at least 4% of the stretched length of the stretched first web (1a, 1b), f) assembling said chassis structure from chassis components comprising said stretched and relaxed composite web (4).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods for manufacturing pant articles, such as disposable pant absorbent articles, each article comprising a chassis structure having at least one elastic panel. The invention also relates to pant-type articles manufactured according to the method of the invention. Background technique [0002] A pant-type hygiene article comprises a pant-shaped base structure and an optional absorbent core element integrally formed with the base. The main goal when designing pant items is to make them resemble regular underwear as much as possible. Accordingly, absorbent articles such as diapers, hygiene pants and incontinence pants are designed to fit comfortably and snugly on the wearer. It is also necessary for the absorbent article to provide a seal to prevent leakage of bodily fluids from the absorbent article without being so tight that the wearer is uncomfortable. It would also be desirable for the item to be put on and tak...
