Embodiment Construction

[0040] see now Figure 1 to Figure 3 , the luggage case according to the invention comprises a suitcase 1 having a substantially cuboidal fabric structure 10 defining a closeable storage volume 20 . The fabric structure 10 includes a base 11 , a top 12 , sides 13 , 14 , a front 15 and a rear 16 and is supported by a support frame 100 . The support frame 100 is adapted to provide support to the fabric structure 10 to protect the contents of the storage body 20 during transportation. The support frame 100 is further adapted (discussed in more detail below) to minimize weight so that users can maximize their luggage weight allowance when traveling.

[0041] A set of wheels 150 and a tow bar 140 protruding upwards and rearwards are also mounted on the support frame 100 . When in use, the suitcase is held securely in an upright position (eg figure 1 and figure 2 shown). The user can tilt the suitcase 1 backwards from an upright position to rotate the suitcase.

Abstract

An article of luggage comprises a suitcase (1) having a substantially cuboid fabric structure (10) defining an enclosable storage volume (20), the fabric structure (10) supported by frame (100). Also mounted upon the supporting frame (100) are a set of wheels (150) and an upward and rearward projecting towing handle (140). The suitcase (1) is stable in an upright position and a user may incline the suitcase (1) rearward from the upright position to wheel the suitcase along. In view of the inclination of the handle (140), the suitcase (1) need not be orientated far from the vertical when being wheeled by a user. As such, the user need not support a significant proportion of the weight and the suitcase (1) is less readily upset by an uneven surface. The handle (140) may be fixed but is preferably telescopic allowing it to be retracted and thus allowing suitcase (1) to be packed more easily in a confined space. The towing handle can be arranged inside the storage volume (20) via a cover (21) that can be tightly covered again. The cover (21) includes almost a whole front portion (15) and about a half of forward portion of a side surface (13). The supporting frame (100) comprises a plurality of stretching members connected together, so that a support pedestal (110) and the top of a support (120) are separated by a diagonal line length member (130) connected between the front portion of the pedestal (110) and the rear portion of the top (120). The handle (140) is arranged on the diagonal line length member (130). The wheels (150) are arranged on the support pedestal (110).

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to luggage and support frames for luggage, and more particularly to wheeled suitcases and the like. Background technique [0002] One popular style of luggage is the wheeled suitcase. The suitcase typically includes a support frame on which a set of wheels is provided, a tow bar and a closeable storage body. Since airline baggage restrictions generally define maximum length, width and depth dimensions, typically such luggage is substantially cuboid in form. Furthermore, advantageously, the cubic form may allow easy and / or efficient boxing in confined spaces, such as car trunks or airplane cabins. [0003] A wheeled suitcase is traditionally defined as having a zippered lid covering most of the front of the suitcase. Wheels are provided on opposite sides of the rear edge of the base of the luggage case, with the tow bar extending telescopically from the rear edge of the luggage case. In this way, the luggage case is generally ...
