Abstract

The invention discloses a method and an apparatus for determining a machine-type communication interworking function (MTC-IWF) entity. And the method and the apparatus are used for determining an MTC-IWF entity that is used for uplink data transmission, so that a serving GSN (SGSN)/MME can carry out uplink data transmission by the MTC-IWF entity. The method comprises the following steps that: a home subscriber server (HSS) determines an MTC-IWF entity according to an MTC-IWF entity address in subscription information of user equipment (UE), wherein the MTC-IWF entity address is configured in advance; or, when the HSS receives a message that is sent by an MTC-IWF entity and is used for request an internal identifier of the UE, an MTC-IWF entity address is recorded and the MTC-IWF entity is determined according to the recorded MTC-IWF entity address; or the HSS utilizes an UE external identifier in subscription information of the UE or an FQDN to search an MTC-IWF entity address from a domain name server (DNS), thereby determining an MTC-IWF entity.
