Embodiment A
[0069] Example A - Synthesis of Comparative Additive (PIBSI)
[0070] The additive is produced by reacting polyisobutylene succinic anhydride (PIBSA, from Afton Chemical) with polyamines (PAM, in this case PAM tetraethylenepentamine, TEPA) in a molar ratio PIBSA / PAM=1 / 1. A modification of the method of US5752989 was used. Under nitrogen atmosphere, PIBSA (551 g) was diluted in solvent aromatic 150 (200 g). The mixture was heated to 115°C. Then 112 g of TEPA was added via the addition funnel. The addition funnel was rinsed with additional solvent aromatic 150 (50 g). The mixture was then heated to 180 °C for about 2 h under a slow nitrogen purge. Water was collected in a Dean-Stark trap. The product was obtained as a brown oil. FTIR absorption peak at 1772 cm -1 and 1703 cm -1 .
[0071] Example B-Synthesis of additive of the present invention-PIBSA-TEPA-NA
[0072]1,8-Naphthalic anhydride (27.7 g, 0.14 mol) was added to PIBSI (950 MW PIB), which is the reaction p...
