Embodiment Construction

[0031] Before the system described herein is described in detail, it is to be understood that this system is not limited to specific components of devices described or steps of methods described, as such devices and methods may vary. It should also be understood that the terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting. It must be noted that, as used in the specification and the appended claims, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Thus, for example, reference to "a substance" includes more than one of such substances, and so forth.

[0032] according to figure 1 , a self-flowing assay system 100 for continuously assaying substances in pressurized body fluids according to one embodiment is described.

[0033] Measurement probe 102 is inserted into the pressurized body fluid of patient 104 . Typically, the pressurized body fluid is ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method and arrangement for the continuous determination of substances in pressurized body fluids. A probe (202) capable of continuously measuring the concentration of one or more substances in a pressurized body fluid is provided. The probe is adapted for insertion into a pressurized body fluid and includes an interface and an outlet lumen. In addition, the probe is configured to allow continuous and spontaneous fluid flow from the bodily fluid through the interface to the exit lumen. The fluid flow from the outlet can be analyzed by a sensor.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to the continuous determination of substances in body fluids. [0002] In particular, the present invention can be used to measure a substance as an indicator of a pathological state, and a sampling probe can be placed in a blood vessel. Background technique [0003] It is well known that certain substances present in the body can serve as indicators of various pathological states of the body. Such substances are hereinafter referred to as indicator substances. Examples of indicator substances are glucose, lactate, pyruvate, glycerol, glutamate and glutamine, cytokines and cardiac specific enzymes. Pathological conditions that may be indicated, detected or predicted include ischemia, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, sepsis, disruption of cell membranes or lipolysis, vasospasm, metabolic disorders and inflammatory diseases. By measuring indicator substances, pathological conditions can be detected before they lead ...
