More specifically, this document discloses a method for fabricating colored reflection holograms using a single laser light source. The method generally involves repeatedly recording the hologram at multiple deformation rates. The hologram can then be read out at one of the recording deformation rates or at a different deformation rate. The deformation ratio is the ratio of the initial thickness of the holographic medium to the deformed thickness of the medium. It should be understood that the media can be made to contain multiple rates of deformation simultaneously by deforming different portions of the media to different degrees (eg, using flat plates with non-uniform thicknesses (eg, flat plates with raised portions, wedge plates, etc.)).
