Abstract

The data reduction method in manufacture of a paleontological fossil structure inter-carven specimen includes: (1) carrying out X-ray scanning on a paleontological fossil, completing three-dimensional (3D) forming of a fossil structure with the Spies software package to obtain 3D data of the paleontological fossil specimen; (2) outputting standard template library (STL) form files: under Spiersview, carrying out the outputting files in the STL form, making sure that all the important structures are retained and output completely, when saving files, the system automatically saving the files in the VAXML form, and after the output is completed, the expanded name of F2 is changed to be STL, namely the files can be read through other computer aided design (CAD) software; (3)-(11) reforming files in the STL form, reducing the number of points as far as possible, but controlling relevant parameters to prevent the files from deforming due to excessive simplification; (14) saving the files in the STL form; and (15) saving the files in a drawing exchange format (DXF) form.
