The method and the device are applied to a virtual system comprising core backbones (CBs) and port extenders (PEs), device identification of each PE and local unit identification and global unit identification of chips in each PE are configured on each CB, the local unit identifications in corresponding PEs uniquely identify the chips in the PEs, and the global unit identifications uniquely identify the chips in the virtual system. The method includes that after the CBs receive redirected messages of the PEs from downlink ports of the CBs, source chip identifications in the messages are mapped to corresponding global unit identifications from the local unit identifications, forwarding table entry study is performed according to the global unit identifications, and when the messages are forwarded to the PEs from the downlink ports of the CBs, destination chip identifications in the messages are mapped to the local unit identifications from the global unit identifications.
