The face recognition system comprises a user information database, an image collection unit, a face testing unit and a face recognition unit. The user information database is used for storing identity information, face images and characteristic vector sets of users; the image collection unit is used for collecting the face images of the users; the face testing unit is used for testing the face images and filtering non-face regions away automatically to obtain face regions; the face recognition unit is used for analyzing the face regions, obtaining face characteristic vector and comparing the face characteristic vector with the characteristic vector sets in the user information database and obtaining corresponding identity information. The face recognition system is a three-dimensional face recognition system which is based on PCA global features and SIFT partial description. With the face recognition method, the recognition accuracy rate is high, environment influencing factors are removed, and the problems that a credit card which is left in the ATM is used by a follower is solved due to the fact that an infrared induction unit is arranged and the system recognizes the face as long as one person comes close to the ATM.
