Embodiment Construction

[0035] figure 1 is a diagram of the functional architecture according to which the invention is implemented in several embodiments of the invention.

[0036] The underlying physical structure consists of a humanoid robot 110, an exemplary embodiment of which is given below, and, optionally, a remote workstation 150 equipped with a software workshop 160 for creating behaviors.

[0037] Known trademark NAO TM humanoid robots. Such a robot has been disclosed inter alia in patent application WO 2009 / 124951 published on 15 October 2009. This platform has been used as the basis for the improvements that have led to the present invention. In the ensuing description, such humanoid robots may be referred to either by this generic term or by its trademark NAO TM to refer, without thereby modifying the generality of the reference. The robot includes about two dozen electronic cards for controlling the sensors and actuators that drive the joints. A joint usually has at least two degre...

Abstract

The invention relates to a humanoid robot provided with a manager for the physical and virtual resources thereof, to a method for using said manager and to a method for programming said manager. Said resources (140, 1410, 1420) are required for executing behaviors (130, 1310, 1320). The resources and the behaviors are organized into hierarchical subsets, optionally defined in object trees. Conflicts in resource utilization by behaviors are locally resolved, the behavior that is reserving resources being programmable so as to offer, to the user, the options of locking up resources by the reserving behavior, releasing resources for the first other requesting behavior, and of partially executing the behavior in progress or pausing same. A software toolset enables the graphical programming of the resource manager in the development environment for programming behaviors.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention belongs to the field of humanoid robots. More precisely, the invention is suitable for managing the resources of said robot, especially when several users of such a robot independently program the behavior to be performed by said robot. Background technique [0002] As long as a robot has certain attributes of human appearance and function: head, torso, two arms, two hands, two legs, two feet, etc., it can be described as humanoid. Beyond appearance, what a robot can do will depend on its ability to move, speak and "reason". Humanoid robots are able to walk with limbs or make gestures through their heads. The complexity of the poses they are able to perform continues to increase. Gestures coordinated with another gesture or coordinated with speech (e.g. raising an arm, uttering a threatening utterance in a husky tone), signals from a robot's parts, especially its LEDs, may convey its "emotion" (e.g., anger) expressions of robo...
