[0021] In general, the present disclosure is applicable to display devices including pixel rows and pixel columns. Here, it should be understood that each pixel includes at least one light generating (eg, OLED) or conducting (eg, LCD or EPD) device, and can include as many as four, five, or more (eg, for a full-color display) Word). Light-generating and / or light-conducting means are referred to hereinafter as "light emitting means". Furthermore, each row of pixels will have at least one scan line coupled thereto, and each column of pixels will have at least one data line coupled thereto. For ease of understanding, a single scan line per row and a single data line per column will be described, with the understanding that the description is intended to include multiple scan and data lines, if used. Additionally, where the terms "row" and "column" are used, it is understood that any display can be rotated whereby the rows and columns are reversed such that the scan and data lin...

Abstract

A method of driving a display device includes providing an array of pixels including rows and columns of pixels, each pixel including a switching / driving transistor circuit and at least one light emitting device. Each row of pixels has a scan line and each column of pixels has a data line. The method further includes defining a frame period during which each pixel in the array of pixels is addressed and dividing the frame period into a write subframe, a display subframe, and a rest subframe. A scan pulse is supplied to each scan line, a data signal to each data line and the light emitting devices are disabled during the write subframe. The light emitting devices are enabled during the display subframe and the switching / driving transistor circuits are disabled. A rest pulse is supplied to all scan lines and the light emitting devices are disabled during the rest subframe.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to stability in MOTFTs, and more particularly, to driving methods for improving stability in MOTFTs. Background technique [0002] Metal Oxide Thin Film Transistors (MOTFTs) are used in a variety of devices, but primarily in the active circuitry of active matrices incorporated into displays. The stability of the MOTFT (ie, the threshold voltage at which the MOTFT is turned on or off) is critical in many operations performed by the MOTFT. See, e.g., co-pending U.S. Patent Application Ser. No. 12 / 915,712, filed October 29, 2010, entitled "Metal Oxide TFT with Improved Stability," regarding TFT For a discussion of positive threshold voltage shift in , the aforementioned patent application is incorporated herein by reference. [0003] The stability of MOTFT is controlled by the oxidation and reduction resistance of metal oxides. The instability of the MOTFT under positive bias is due to its susceptibility to oxida...
