Embodiment Construction

[0033] Embodiments of thermoelectric cooling systems that overcome the problems of the prior art are disclosed herein. Thermoelectric cooling systems may be included in vehicles, such as aircraft, as part of refrigeration units, such as food and beverage refrigerators used in galleys.

[0034] Figure 1A with 1B An exemplary embodiment of a thermoelectric cooling system 100 is shown. Thermoelectric cooling system 100 may include a refrigerator for freezing items such as food and beverages. Thermoelectric cooling system 100 may be used in a vehicle, such as an airplane, boat, train, bus, or van. Thermoelectric cooling system 100 includes a freezer compartment 110 in which items to be frozen may be maintained at a temperature lower than the ambient air temperature outside freezer compartment 110 . The freezer compartment 110 may have a door that can be opened to enter and exit the freezer compartment 110 and closed to secure items to be frozen in an insulated temperature-cont...

Abstract

A thermoelectric cooling system consists of: a thermoelectric device that transfers heat from the cold side to the hot side by means of the Peltier effect; an air heat exchanger that transfers heat from the air to the cold side; and a heat sink that transfers heat from the hot side to the coolant fluid. The system also includes: a temperature sensor that measures air temperature; and a controller that controls power flow to the thermoelectric device based on the temperature measurement. The system also transfers heat from the air heat exchanger to the radiator by means of a thermoelectric device due to the temperature difference between the air heat exchanger and the coolant fluid. The controller can reduce the effective voltage across the thermoelectric device to reduce the power consumption of the thermoelectric device.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 494,197, filed June 7, 2011, entitled "Thermoelectric Cooling System for Food and Beverage Rooms," the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] Embodiments relate generally to thermoelectric cooling systems, and more particularly to thermoelectric cooling systems for food and beverage rooms. Background technique [0004] Traditional food and beverage refrigeration systems contained in vehicles such as aircraft use vapor compression refrigeration systems. These vapor compression refrigeration systems are typically heavy, prone to reliability issues, occupy a large amount of space, and consume a large amount of energy. In vehicles such as aircraft, it is desirable to reduce the use of energy, at least because of the corresponding reduction in weight of the equipment necessary to generate the energy...
