Problems solved by technology

In addition, the valve mechanism requires moving parts, which will increase the fatigue of the long-term implant material and the risk of device fracture
Device fracture may in turn lead to full or partial implant embolization
In addition, the valve incorporated into the shunt has the potential for sensitivity failure, which could lead to a rapid increase in left ventricular load
It is conceivable that the patient would experience severe sudden cyclic pressure overload induced by this therapeutic shunt with potentially serious complications

Embodiment Construction

[0039] refer to figure 1 , which depicts an embodiment for the treatment of heart failure. figure 1 Shown is the interatrial septum 100 , which is penetrated by a guide wire 102 , thereby creating an opening of a first diameter and further dilated with the aid of a dilation tool 106 to a substantially second larger diameter opening. The dilation tool is the conical distal end 106 of the dilation catheter 104 configured to allow a user to dilate an opening of a first diameter created by the guide wire 102 . Guidewire 102 and dilation catheter 104 extend from right atrium 108 into left atrium 110 . The dilatation catheter 104 has a treatment method 112 for delivering energy to septal tissue proximate to the first diameter opening enlarged by the dilation tool 106 . exist figure 1 In , the energy-delivering tool is depicted as a cross-hatched area on the dilation catheter 104 . Energy delivered therapy 112 may be used to remove tissue adjacent to the second largest diameter o...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method and a device for treating heart failure by normalizing elevated blood pressure in the left and right atria of a heart of a mammal. The present disclosure includes methods for creating and maintaining an opening in the atrial septum. Tools for making an opening and enlarging the opening are also disclosed. Use of the techniques and tools described herein prolongs the patency of an intra-atrial pressure relief opening.

Description

technical field [0001] The content disclosed herein relates to a method and a device for treating heart failure, in particular to a method and a device for treating heart failure by establishing an intraatrial pressure release hole in the heart cavity to reduce the elevated blood pressure in the atrium. In addition, the disclosure herein also relates to methods and devices for maintaining or prolonging the patency of intraatrial pressure relief holes. Background technique [0002] Millions of patients worldwide suffer from heart failure. Heart failure includes left heart failure, right heart failure or both. Left heart failure can lead to increased blood pressure in the pulmonary veins, which can produce breathing problems, including shortness of breath and movement disturbances. There are multiple causes of left heart failure, including heart valve disease, left ventricular systolic failure, and left ventricular diastolic failure. The adverse clinical outcome of these sy...
