Abstract

Provided is a sterilized article comprising a sterilized or hydrogen peroxide vapor-sterilized polymer composition, the polymer composition comprising a polyetherimide, wherein after exposure to 100 cycles of the hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilization using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide vapor and hydrogen peroxide plasma for 30 minutes at 20 to 55 DEG C, the color of the polymer composition of the article exhibits a color shift of delta E of 10 units or less relative to the color of the polymer composition color before the first hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilization cycle, wherein delta E is measured in accordance with ASTM D2244.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of filing US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 493,163, filed June 3, 2011, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] The present disclosure relates to articles formed from polyetherimide compositions. [0004] Hydrogen peroxide plasma disinfection devices are known, for example as described in US Patent 4,643,876. The article to be sterilized is placed in the plasma chamber, the chamber is closed, and a vacuum is drawn in the chamber to remove the gas in the chamber. An aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide is typically injected into the chamber to raise the pressure in the chamber to the desired level. The hydrogen peroxide remains in the chamber for a period of time sufficient for the hydrogen peroxide to come into intimate contact with the article to be sterilized before the power level generated by the plasma is sufficien...
