Abstract

The present invention discloses methods and apparatus for decoding feature locations. In one embodiment, a method for decoding feature location information of an image includes: generating a hexagonal grid, wherein the hexagonal grid includes a plurality of hexagonal units; using the hexagonal grid to decode the image quantizing the feature positions of the ; generating a histogram to record the occurrence of the feature position in each hexagonal cell; and encoding the histogram according to the occurrence of the feature position in each hexagonal cell. The method for encoding the histogram includes: applying context information of adjacent hexagonal units to encode information of subsequent hexagonal units to be encoded in the histogram, wherein the context information includes information from the hexagonal units to be encoded. The context information of the first-level neighbors of the subsequent hexagonal unit to be encoded and the context information of the second-level neighbors of the subsequent hexagonal unit to be encoded.
