Embodiment Construction

[0021] In embodiments of the present invention, certain bulking agents are incorporated into the chewing gum so that the final chewing gum product has commercially acceptable cud duration, chew texture (including cohesiveness and elasticity), and mouthfeel, as well as Accepted flavor and sweetness release. In other embodiments of the invention, the bulking agent has the added advantage of being less cariogenic than sucrose and / or containing fiber. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention relate to improved chewing gum formulations.

[0022] As used herein, the term "chewing gum" also includes bubble gum and confectionary products containing chewing gum. All percentages used herein are by weight unless otherwise indicated. As used herein, a chewing gum base contains a non-filler gum base portion and a filler gum base portion.

[0023] Chewing gum compositions typically contain a water soluble portion and a water insoluble portion. The water soluble portion co...

Abstract

A chewing gum composition containing at least 25 wt.% water-soluble portion containing a least one simple sugar and at least one water-soluble fiber; and at least 25 wt.% water-insoluble portion containing at least 10 wt.% chewing gum base filler and at least 10 wt.% chewing gum non-filler base composition. Such a combination of water-soluble and water-insoluble materials produces a healthy amount of fiber, while creating a chewing gum with an acceptable mass duration, elasticity, cohesion, flavor delivery, and sweetness delivery.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a supplement to US Provisional Application No. 61 / 449,168, filed March 4, 2011, which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background of the invention [0003] The present application relates to improved chewing gum compositions, and more particularly, to improved chewing gum compositions using bulking agents to provide acceptable texture and flavor and improve the healthiness of the chewing gum. [0004] Chewing gum contains a water soluble portion and a water insoluble portion. Typically, the water soluble portion will contain water soluble bulking agents, such as sucrose, and other water soluble components such as flavoring agents, sensates, coloring agents, and high intensity sweeteners. The water insoluble portion typically comprises a chewing gum base comprising a water insoluble chewing gum non-filler base and a water insoluble chewing gum base filler. While the water-soluble part dissolves s...
